hi all,

i have a problem and i hope someone can solve it.

i'm playing a avi file in winamp, it's a div x file. for anybody who's interested it's a dr who that i downloaded. but the problem is that it's to quiet. jaws is just to overpowering. i want to put abit of volume to the audio so i can listen to it at a reasonable level but i can't because jaws is painfully loud. is there a way round this?

any help would be apreciated.

many thanks

hey, I use Winamp, but I've never ran into the problem your having, actually I'm not sure what your trouble is. Hope you get it fixed soon.

i hav a program that i can send to you daz that you can use with winamp that will help unify levels. i think it will work with avi files. i'll send it to you when i next see you on messenger. you might not wish to use it all the time because it acts as a compressor too but i can talk you threw that when i send it to you.

You need to turn your computer volume down and the winamp volume up. Turn your computers volume down as low as possible; most laptops come with volume knobs, wheels, or buttons on the side or top of the mashene. Once the computers volume is down low you can turn winamp up with the up arrow once inside the winamp application.

your system volume will dictate jaws volume. So, go into the sounds and audio devices control panel and turn down the main volume until it's a comfortable level. Then, go into winamp and turn the application volume up. That should do the trick. If the volume in Winamp is still too low, perhaps you need to normalize the peak audio of the file. You can do this in many applications, sound forge, goldwave, etc. I think there is freeware/shareware to normalize various file types. I wouldn't suggest doing this with music though as it kills the dynamic range!
